Emerson is Six Months

Sunday, July 30, 2017

We are HALF way to our sweet girl's first birthday. How is that even possible? I feel like she has changed so much lately and while it is so fun to see her go through all of these milestones, it definitely brings tears to my eyes to see how quickly she's growing.

We had her 6 month check up at the pediatrician's office last week and she is just over 15 pounds which puts her in the 27th percentile which is huge since she has been anywhere from 7th-14th percentile previously. She is 26 1/4" which dropped her from the 90th percentile to around 60th...so I'm not sure how accurate that is.

Our pediatrician thinks her blue eyes are here to say, and I am so thankful for that! For someone who is brown haired, brown eyes, this makes my heart happy to have a blue eyed baby. We don't have anyone on my side or Andrew's side that has blue eyes so we don't know where she gets it from! Her once very dark hair has turned blonde but is beginning to darken up a little. Who would ever think I'd have a blonde hair, blue eyed babe? Not me!

We are transitioning her to size 2 diapers but she's mainly still in 1's. She's still in a lot of 3 month clothes but we are transitioning her to 6 months. Tiny girl!

She is a thumb sucker and I hope that doesn't stay around for long. She really only sucks her thumb when she is really tired and fighting her sleep. She's never really taken a paci and there are days that I wish she would take that instead of her thumb. You can always take a paci away, but not the thumb.

She is crawling! Well, I say "crawling" but really it is an army crawl on all fours and she scoots back and forth (and rocks) but can definitely get around. We'll put something a few feet away (she loves fetching our phones) and she'll shimmy her way to it and grab it!

So far, she's eaten oatmeal (her absolute favorite), peas (her absolute least favorite), green beans, carrots and sweet potatoes. Our pediatrician recommended that she try peanut butter. I had always heard that you were supposed to wait until they were one, but she said that has changed and now the earlier they are introduced to it, the least likely they are to have the allergy. Emerson likes it okay but not as much as I thought she would! She's only tried it twice but I'm sure she'll grow to like it more. At school, she doesn't always seem interested in eating her veggies but as soon as one of her teachers starts feeding another baby, she'll eat. Copy cat.

She doesn't nap that much at school and I believe that's because she's still extremely nosey. She is too interested in the activities around her and it distracts her from sleeping. I'm okay with that because she's sleeping through the night so she gets plenty of sleep at home. She's been sleeping through the night since she was 9 weeks old and I can't complain about that! She currently sleeps from about 7:30pm-6:30am.

We absolutely love her teachers at "school" and Emerson is always sad to leave them in the afternoons. I love getting all of these pictures from them throughout the day. It makes me feel like I'm there with her.

Emerson is Five Months

Sunday, July 9, 2017

So, Emerson is actually closer to being 6 months than 5 months but I didn't want to miss a month. Like usual, I took her picture the day she turned 5 months, but it just takes me forever to put all of these pictures together for some reason.

Clearly, we are having a difficult time staying still these days and she is constantly moving. Hands, legs, everything.

I would say that her biggest milestone this month has been starting solid foods. We took a video to document it and I'm not going to post it, but she really seemed to enjoy it! Our pediatrician recommended baby oatmeal instead of rice cereal due to the rice being contaminated.  I've been using this organic one from Target. I just heat up a couple of tablespoons of breast milk and pour it into the oatmeal and made it super liquidy. I'll gradually make it a little thicker but doing it this way will make it an easier transition. Let's just say, the girl likes food because she was grabbing the bowl and trying to eat out of it.

Also, I started making her baby food! She tried peas for the first time today and needless to say, it will be an acquired taste for her. I made green beans, peas, avocado, sweet potatoes and carrots. I've frozen all of it and we'll do each one for a few days before introducing the next.

We met a few new special people this month! My sister had her baby and I am officially an aunt! Michael Andrew was born on June 21 and we couldn't be more in love with him!

Our dear friend Stephanie also had her sweet baby girl and Emerson loved meeting Georgia. We can't wait for them to grow up together and be besties!

E met Brent and can't wait to learn so many things from him. He is so special to us and actually married Andrew and me!

We celebrated Andrew's First Father's Day and loved spending time with him! Also, he went away to Scotland for an entire week with work to play golf. He had the best time, but we sure did miss him! It also tested my motherhood skills as I did everything on my own that week. It sure did teach me that I could never be a single parent and we are so thankful for everything he does!

Another new thing that I noticed this month was that she has been grabbing faces. I don't know if it is because her eyesight is getting better and she is just trying to reach out and touch what she sees, but it's kind of funny. She's also been grabbing her toes and trying to eat them!

She is so much more alert and aware of her surroundings. She is beginning to recognize people and their voices. I think she is learning her name because when we say it, she now looks in our direction when she hears it. She also gets distracted very easily. If I'm nursing her and Andrew walks in the room, she'll stop, look at him and smile. It's really cute until she won't stop staring at him and won't eat.

She is still not sitting up on her own, but does pretty well in the bumbo. We've been feeding her in that and will transition to her high chair soon.

At her last doctor's appointment, she weighed 13 pounds, 7 ounces which put her at about the 20th percentile. That tripled from her last appointment which she was at 7%!

Her hair is getting lighter and lighter and her eyes are getting bluer by the day. Who would have ever though that this brown haired, brown eyed girl could have an offspring that looks nothing like her?

She's still sleeping through the night, thank goodness. She's an excellent night sleeper but hasn't been doing well with her naps at school. I think she is so busy with activities that she is just fighting her sleep because she wants to play more than sleep.

She is enjoying baths more and more. We now "play" more than we ever have and she loves kicking and splashing around.

We took her to the beach for the first time and she loved it! She loves being outside and was mesmerized with the sand and water. I used this sunscreen and it was perfect because she didn't get burnt at all. Would y'all be interested in a post of our beach essentials and everything we took that we used for her?

And, just a few extras! We sure did have a wonderful month and I can't believe she'll be 6 months in just a few short days!!
